Is your diet affecting your healthy teeth?

The old adage “you are what you eat” is especially true for dental health. What you put in your mouth has a direct impact on the health of your teeth, after all.

While we do love caring for our patients at Mosman Dental Clinic, we also love educating you on the best ways to take care of your teeth.

Tooth decay is directly related to your diet. Tooth decay or dental caries is caused by the erosion of enamel in your teeth.

Enamel erosion occurs when the sugars in your meal mix with the bacteria in plaque. This creates acid, which eats away at the enamel in your teeth, causing tooth decay. The acid can also destroy the layer under the tooth’s enamel, called dentin, resulting in cavities.

As such, you can help avoid tooth decay by limiting the amount of sugary foods you have in your daily diet.
